September Wine of the Month
The 2016 Perlita Malbec-Syrah is a terrific red wine that will please the palate and match nicely with grilled meats and veggies. The Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina is the location of the DiamAndes vineyards. The elevation is 1000 meters (3200 feet). The Perlita combination of 80% Malbec and 20% Syrah gives this wine a different presence than the average Argentine red wine. The Syrah adds spice and character, and the Malbec does its dance with red and dark fruit flavors. It’s mellow, balanced, and flavorful. James Suckling gives the wine 93 Points and suggests that a year or two of aging will bring out the best in this wine. It drinks well now, but for $11.99, a half case in the cellar is a nice investment. The nose is spectacular in the wine, both red and dark fruit plus a good dose of white pepper. If you like a peppery wine, this one will be to your liking. The flavors are rich and the finish moderate.
