WHAT IS ST. PATRICK’S DAY?
Saint Patric’s Day (the feast of St. Patrick) is a religious and cultural celebration that takes place on the traditional death date of St. Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland, who lived from 385 – 461 AD.
Patrick was a Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. He came from a wealthy Romano-British family, and was kidnapped by Irish raiders and brought to Gaelic Ireland as a slave. He found God while working as a shepard for six years. He later converted thousands located in the northern half of Ireland from pagan to Christianity.
St. Patrick’s Day has become one of the biggest, most festive celebrationds in Ireland today. Public parades, festivals with music, the wearing of green (shamrocks), banquets, dances and lots of delicious llibations, such as Guinness beer and Jameson Whiskey (from Ireland).
